Red Flash Drop Third Straight EIVA Tait Division Match

NEWARK, N.J. (Mar. 8, 2008) – Sophomore Jordan Varee (Meadville, Pa. / Conneaut Valley) had 14 kills and two blocks, but the Saint Francis men's volleyball team suffered its third consecutive defeat, 3-0, on Saturday night at NJIT.

The Red Flash dropped to 9-9 overall, and 5-4 in the EIVA. They will try to get back on the winning track when they visit Juniata at 7 p.m. on Mar. 19th.

Saint Francis hit just .186 in the match in falling 29-31, 14-30, 25-30.

Sophomore Nick Rivett (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) tallied nine kills and seven digs, while sophomore Pete Freyer (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) added 8 kills and two blocks and junior Shane Conley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) had 31 assists.

Leonardo Paludo had 12 kills, four aces and 11 digs to lead the Highlanders, who hit .359 in the match.

NJIT jumped out to a quick 12-6 lead in Game 1 before the Red Flash began to crawl back into the contest. SFU eventually tied the game at 28-28 and 29-29, but Paludo killed NJIT's 30th point and the Red Flash committed a ball handling error to seal the loss.

The second game was close early, but the Highlanders used a 14-0 run to pull away from a 6-5 lead.

Saint Francis took an early 6-4 lead in Game 3, but fell behind for good on a 3-0 run by NJIT.
