Red Flash Men's and Women's Tennis Suffer Defeat After Long Layoff

LORETTO, Pa. (Mar. 23, 2009) – After nearly a month off, the Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams were back in action over the weekend. The Red Flash men suffered defeats against George Mason, 6-1, and Morgan State, 5-2, respectively. The SFU women were handed a 6-1 loss at the hands of Morgan State.

Senior Jeffrey Seevers (Clear Lake, Texas/Clear Lake) (Clear Lake, Texas / Clear Lake) won both of his singles matches over the weekend. He defeated George Mason's Arjun Sanghui 6-2, 6-3 in No. 5 singles, and then handed Aaron Benjamin 6-7, 6-4 (10-7).

Seevers also aided freshman teammate Steven Child (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster County Day) to an 8-4 win over Benjamin and Samuel Matthew of Morgan State.

The Red Flash lost several close matches in singles and doubles in both contests.

Senior Abigail Ball (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) came away with the only win for the Saint Francis women, against the Bears. She defeated Viktoriya Lukyanenko, 7-5 and 7-6, in No. 2 singles.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Coppin State.
