SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Saint Francis junior
Kevin Titus Suresh continued his impressive fall season this weekend, advancing to the championship match of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship at Skidmore College.
Competing against many of the top Division III players from throughout the Northeast, Suresh has put together a dominant run through the Main Draw. After opening the tournament with a straight-set victory, Suresh advanced to the semifinals, where he earned another win Sunday to secure his place in Monday's championship match. With the victory, Suresh has already secured a berth in the ITA Cup, the Division III national championship event scheduled for October 15-18 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
Suresh wasn't the only Saint Francis player to make an impact at this weekend's tournament.
Noah Potts and
Deven Pandey both advanced the semifinals of their respective draws. The trio went a combined 10-2.
"Kevin, Noah, and Deven played some amazing tennis this weekend against some of the best players in the Northeast ITA region," Saint Francis head coach
Eric Hovan said. "Going into Monday's finals with a 10-2 record is crazy good. Deven played the best singles match of his college career."
Suresh and Potts also had wins over some solid teams the doubles tournament.
Monday's championship match gives Suresh another opportunity to add to his resume. A victory would make Suresh an ITA All-American. Last year, he captured the NEC Singles Championship, earning a spot in the ITA Master tournament.
"Kevin is definitely in the discussion of the best men's player in SFU history," Hovan said. "Qualifying for national championships in Division I and Division III speaks to how good he is. The fact that he is one of the nicest and most humble people that you could ever meet makes you that much happier for his success."
Monday's championship match begins at 9 a.m.
