Red Flash Men and Women Earn Wins Over Coppin State

EBENSBURG, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams returned to action over the weekend and came away with wins over Coppin State in Ebensburg. The Red Flash men came away with a 4-3 victory, while the women won by a score of 6-1.

 Junior Ashley Zalewski (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) (Vandergift, Pa. / Kiski Area), and freshmen Brianna Mapes (Somerset, Pa./Shanksville) (Somerset, Pa. / Shanksville), Stephanie Rivera (El Paso, Texas/America's High School) (El Paso, Texas / America's High School) and Devynn Sarver (Mt. Clemens, MI/Fraser) (Mt. Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) all came away with wins in women's singles.

 Rivera defeated Ana Sebescen 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, and Zalewski won 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 over Mary Dogo-Isonagie at No. 3 singles. Mapes beat Amatul Bean 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, and Sarver was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Andin Gang at No. 5 singles.

 Sarver and sophomore Juliana Gustafson (Keyser, W.Va./Keyser) (Keyser, WV / Keyser) also won an 8-1 doubles match versus Dogo-Isonagie and Bean.

 On the men's side, senior Jeffrey Seevers (Clear Lake, Texas/Clear Lake) (Clear Lake, Texas / Clear Lake) defeated Anthony Littlejohn 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and freshman Steven Child (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster County Day) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Oshain Blake at No. 4 singles.

 Seevers and freshman Nathaniel Fleming (Gas City, Ind. / Mississinewa) were also 8-0 winners over Quincy Darko and Blake at No. 2 doubles.

 Both Red Flash teams will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Mount St. Mary's for a noon time match.

 The SFU men improved to 4-9 on the season, while the Red Flash women moved to 4-8-1 on the season.
