SFU’s Conley Breaks Single-Season Assists Record in Loss at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Shane Conley (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) broke his own single-season school record for assists, but it wasn't enough as Ohio State handed the Saint Francis men's volleyball team a 3-1 defeat on Friday night in Columbus.

Conley dished out 50 assists to bring his season total to a school-record 1,169. He now has a school-record 4,328 career assists. Junior Jordan Varee (Conneautville, PA/Conneaut Valley) (Conneatville, Pa. / Conneaut Valley) tied a season-high with 27 kills in the 30-16, 23-30, 30-28, 32-30 loss. Varee hit .447 and also had seven digs, three blocks and three aces.

The Buckeyes had five players in double-digit kills, led by Ted Schoenfeldt with 18. Steven Kehoe had 62 assists.

The Red Flash fell to 14-13 overall, and will wrap up the regular season with a 7 p.m. Saturday contest, at Ball State.

Saint Francis, which earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming EIVA playoffs, will then await its second-round opponent. The Red Flash will play host to the winner of the No. 6 versus No. 7 seed at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at DeGol Arena. Tickets for the EIVA playoff match are $5 for adults and $2 for children.

Junior Nick Rivett (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) had 11 kills and six digs, and freshman John Wappler (Warrendale, Pa. / North Allegheny) added 11 digs and four assists for SFU.
