Saint Francis Announces Addition of Kam Ritter To Men’s Basketball Team

LORETTO, Pa. (April 22, 2010) – Saint Francis University head men's basketball coach Don Friday announced that Christian Brothers Academy standout senior guard Kameron Ritter has signed a national letter of intent (NLI) to join the Red Flash beginning with the 2010-11 basketball season.

Ritter is the first player to sign an NLI to play for the Red Flash in the spring signing period, and will be a freshman with four years of eligibility when he joins Friday's program in the fall. He joins three other high school seniors who signed during the early signing period in November. Ritter will be a teammate of fellow incoming freshmen Scott Eatherton (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey), Kyheim Hall (Pocono Mountain East) and Storm Stanley (Lambertville, Mich. / St. Francis de Sales).

“Signing Kam was extremely important to our program,” said Friday, who will enter his third season at the helm of Saint Francis in the fall. “As a player, he does not just fill statistical categories. Kam Ritter wins. He does so many things that connect teammates for a greater cause. When the stakes were highest, he was at his best as he helped lead his CBA program to the 2010 New York State title. The same can be said when he's playing in the summer for the City Rock's program – Kam Ritter thrives on competing in big games and he wins.

“In Kam, we are getting a true student-athlete,” Friday continued. “He is a leader on and off the court. During this recruiting process, whether it was coach Dave Doemel or various faculty at CBA, everyone pointed to Kam's character and his unselfish attitude and outstanding work ethic. Playing for Dave Doemel, Kam is well prepared. We expect him to contribute here from Day 1.

“Adding a player of Kam's ability and his state championship, big-game pedigree, I feel it's another important building block in helping shape a winning culture here at Saint Francis University,” Friday said. “I can't wait to coach this young man and help him develop over the next four years.”

Ritter is a 6-3, 160-pound athletic swingman who led Christian Brothers Academy to the 2009-10 New York State championship and a 24-2 record. He averaged 16 ppg, 3 spg, 4 apg and 3 rpg as a senior, and tied the 3-point field goals per game school record. Ritter also tied the school's single-game steals record and was the MVP of the New York State Public School Championship Tournament, and Player of the Year in Section II. Additionally, he was the Big Ten Player-of-the-Year, a Channel 13 All-Star, and MVP of the Section II Championship Tournament.

Also a gifted student, Ritter was a 2009-10 Scholar-Athlete in the Capital District and was an honor student during his junior and senior years. He also played football and tennis for the Brothers. Ritter plans to study Psychology at Saint Francis.

“As a team captain and three-year starter this past year, Kam brought leadership and confidence to our team,” said Christian Brothers Academy head coach Dave Doemel. “He is an exceptional player who is willing to sacrifice personal plaudits for the sake of the team. He certainly has the capability on any night of trying to score 20-plus points, but that won't help us win. So he was instrumental in developing our team-play mode, which I think made us one of the strongest teams in the state because of his ability to put the team first.”
