LORETTO, Pa. (April 29, 2010) – Saint Francis men's tennis player Elahn Pogue (Saint Catherines, Ont./West Park Secondary) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie-of-the-Year, as announced by the league on Thursday.
“I am extremely pleased with Elahn's performance this year,” said head coach Frank Spaid. “He came in and led this team as a freshman, and he was consistently one of our best players. He truly deserves this award. I am excited to see what he will do in the future.”
Pogue, a native of Ontario, Canada, compiled a team-best record of 10-6 overall and 7-0 in Northeast Conference action. He ranked second overall at No. 1 singles in the NEC with a record of 10-3. Pogue also teamed with Nathaniel Fleming (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa) for a 5-8 record at No. 1 doubles for the Red Flash.
At the 2010 Northeast Conference Championships, Pogue was working towards a come-from-behind victory against Quinnipiac's Brian Mikkelson at 6-4, 1-2, but the two were unable to finish the match. However, he was able to claim a 6-4, 6-3 record over Danlahdi Robinson of St. Francis NY in the consolation final.
Among his many wins this season, Pogue earned conference victories over Robert Morris' David Pinto (6-2, 6-1), SFNY's Robinson (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Patrick Plastow of Mount St. Mary's (6-1, 6-2).
