LORETTO, Pa. (Dec. 17, 2010) – Saint Francis University head softball coach Sabrina Lane has announced that local product Chelsea Rex has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Red Flash beginning in the 2011-12 season.
Rex is currently a senior at Philipsburg-Osceola High School, where she plays for head coach Jim Gonder. A pitcher for the Mountaineers, Rex guided P-O to a 25-2 record and an appearance in the 2010 PIAA Class AA championship game.
“I am very excited to have a local standout in Chelsea Rex join the Red Flash family,” said Lane, who is in her fifth season at Saint Francis. “Chelsea has done nothing but excel on the softball field and in the classroom, and will be a great fit for our program both on and off the field. I believe she is one of the pieces that we need to help make us a consistent threat to play for the NEC championship.”
Rex has built an impressive resume during her career with the Mountaineers, leading them to two Mountain League championships and the 2010 District 6 title. She has compiled a 26-3 record with 323 strikeouts and a 0.95 ERA. She has held opponents to a .119 batting average, and has four perfect games, five no-hitters and 11 shutouts. In 2010, Rex was a PIAA First Team All-State pitcher, as well as District 6 First Team and Mountain League First Team honoree. Rex is a career .370 hitter with a .450 on-base percentage, six triples, 10 home runs and 48 RBIs.
A three-year member of the National Honors Society, Rex plans to study Psychology at Saint Francis University.
