RESULTS

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Dec. 4, 2010) -
A masterful toss in the Weight Throw by junior Terry Bookhamer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) was the highlight of the day for the Saint Francis men's track & field team, and a talented group of freshmen provided a spark for the Red Flash had a successful season opening day at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell.

"Across the board we were very good today," said Red Flash head coach Gordon Thomson.  "Our newcomers came into their first competition and performed very, very well."

The star of the day, though, was Bookhamer, who launched an IC4A-qualifying toss of 17.09m in the Weight Throw to take second in the event.  According to Thomson, Bookhamer's throw was the most impressive feat of the day for the Flash.

"Terry's throw was, without a doubt, the highlight of our day," said Thomson.  "Absolutely great throw."

Bookhamer was the leader of what was a terrific day in the field for the Red Flash men.  In particular, freshman Matt Giza (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial) turned heads with his performance in the High Jump; Giza tied for fourth in the event with a jump of 1.86m, all the more impressive when one considers that he had missed his first two jumps.

"Great performance under stress from Matt," said Thomson.

On the track, freshman Cedric Forbes (Corning, N.Y./Corning ) (Corning, N.Y./Corning) had a strong day in the sprints, taking 8th in the 500m with a time of 1:10.10.  Elsewhere in the sprints, Everette Farmer (Baltimore, MD/Loyola, Blakefield) (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) took 4th in the 300m with a time of 36.68.

In the distance events, Ryan DuBois (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) won the 1000m run for the Red Flash with a time of 2:37.60; less than one second behind him was yet another freshman, Jake Portock (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), who finished second with his time of 2:38.00.  Kyle Gibson (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) took fourth in the 3000m but was the first collegiate finisher with his time of 9:02.99; Tayler Moore (Jamestown, N.Y./Maple Grove) (Jamestown, N.Y./Maple Grove) was right behind him at 9:13.42.
