FORT MYERS, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2010) – Sophomore Megan Layne (Vallejo, Calif./Rodriguez) (Vallejo, Calif. / Rodriquez) pitched 7.0 strong innings and freshman Karlie Miller (Wildomar, Calif. / Temescal Canyon) drove in two runs to lead the Saint Francis softball team to a 3-1 victory over Eastern Michigan at the Florida Gulf Coast Spring Break Invitational on Saturday night.
The Red Flash jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and Layne surrendered just one run on five hits in the complete game. She struck out four and walked none for her second victory of the season.
Saint Francis improved to 2-6 on the season, and close out play in Fort Myers against tournament-host Florida Gulf Coast at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Freshman Taylor Darneille (Fircrest, Wash. / Wilson) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Miller had a two-run single in the sixth inning. Freshman Heather Stiglich (Newhall, Calif. / William S. Hart) started the scoring with a one-out double in the fourth inning. Senior
Christina Aulbach (York, PA /Dallastown Area) (York, Pa. / Dallastown Area) pinch ran and came around to score on a single by Darneille.

Raquel Rugani (Montour, PA/Montour) (McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour) led off the sixth inning with a single, and pinch-runner Layne moved to second when sophomore
Paige Smith (Saugus, Calif./Valencia) (Saugus, Calif. / Valencia) was hit by a pitch. Darneille moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt, and Miller plated them with a single to make it 3-0.
Layne's one blemish came on a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but she retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve Saint Francis' second win of the young season.
