BROOKLYN, N.Y. (March 27, 2010) – The Saint Francis women's tennis team earned their first win of the season this weekend, defeating Northeast Conference foe St. Francis NY 7-0 on Saturday in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Red Flash earned the doubles point, going 3-0 with Samantha Fulchiero (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and Juliana Gustafson (Keyser, W.Va./Keyser) (Keyser, W. Va./Keyser) defeated Arianna Van Sluytman and Shakaya Slay 8-2, while Stephanie Rivera (El Paso, Texas/America's High School) (El Paso, Texas/America's HS) and Devynn Sarver (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Fraser) (Mt. Clemen's Mich./Fraser) earned a win over Colene Alexis and Renee Warner by a score of 8-1.  Abigail Ball (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and Ashley Zalewski (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) rounded out the victors, taking the win at No. 3 doubles.

The success continued over to the singles' matches, with Fulchiero taking the win at No. 1 singles over Van Sluytman 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.  Sarver defeated Alexis in the No. 2 spot 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Caitlin Bart (Warren, Ohio/Howland) (Warren, Ohio/Howard) earned her first win of the day over Slay 6-0, 6-0.  

Laura Husband (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville Area) (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville Area) defeated Renee Warner 6-0, 6-0, with Gustafson and Zalewski also earning wins.

The Flash will continue with the NEC action when they face Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. on April 9.
