SOUTH WINDSOR, N.J. (April 17, 2010) – Winning seven of nine matches, the Saint Francis men's tennis team earned a 4-1 win over the Terriers of St. Francis NY in the consolation final of the 2010 Northeast Conference Tennis Championships.
Elahn Pogue (St. Catherines, Ont./West Park Secondary) took a 6-4, 6-3 win over Danlahdi Robinson at the No. 1 flight, while Nathaniel Fleming (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa) led 2-6, 5-2 at the No. 2 spot but did not get to finish his match versus James Brennan Tsang.
Stephen Kowalski (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) also led 7-5 against Tita Mba at No. 3 singles, but did not get to finish.
Steven Child (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster County Day) defeated Edward Alontaga at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Andres Rosa (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio la Piedad) (Carolina, PR/Colegio la Piedad) also earned a win, beating Daniel Gonzalez 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 5 flight.
Peter Dietrich (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Citadel) (Halifax, NS/Citadel) suffered the lone singles loss of the day, falling 6-0, 6-2 to Martin Grunin at No. 6 singles.
Robinson and Mba handed the Red Flash their lone doubles loss of the day, defeating Pogue and Fleming in a close 8-6 match at No. 1. Kowalski and Child defeated Tsang and Gonzalez 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, while Rosa and Dietrich defeated Alontaga and Alex Tokarz 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
