PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2011) – In its second competition of the season, the Saint Francis University swimming team suffered an 0-2 outing, dropping decisions to Duquesne and Central Conn. State Saturday in Pittsburgh. The Red Flash fell to the home-standing Dukes, 137.5-121.5, and fell short against the Blue Devils, 149-110
The setbacks move SFU to 1-2 on the young season.
Sophomore
Megan Collins (Monroeville, Pa./Oakland Catholic) posted the only Flash win of the afternoon in the 1,000 free, swimming a 10:40.55. Saint Francis accumulated second-place finishes in seven of the day's 14 events. The Blue Devils – who came away with a pair of dual wins – racked up eight event victories.
Sophomore
Jennifer Demjanenko (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna-Lincoln) and freshman
Rebecca Peer (Chelsea, Quebec/Philemon Wright) each claimed two silvers on the day. Demjanenko finished with a 1:55.72 in the 200 free and replicated the feat in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.82. Peer wound up fractions of a second away from a win in the 100 backstroke, swimming a 1:00.79. She also claimed second in the 200 back (2:09.85).
Junior
Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) (50 free, 24.71),
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) (100 fly, 1:00.22) and the 400 medley relay team also posted runner-up finishes.
Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when it takes part in the two-day Thomas Murphy Invitational in Baltimore, Md.
