Shannon Out for the Season with Knee Injury

Junior guard to redshirt

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 17 2011) – Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) of the Saint Francis University men's basketball team will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 season with a torn ACL.

The junior guard from Atlantic City, N.J. will redshirt the remainder of the 2011-12 season. Shannon played in just one game for the Red Flash this season and led SFU with 26-points against VCU.

“Everyone in and around our program is disappointed with news about Umar's injury,” head coach Don Friday said. “But we are also united as we stand behind him collectively and will help him through it.”

Shannon led the Red Flash in scoring in 2010-11 and earned Second-Team All-Northeast Conference honors for his efforts. The knee injury is the third such injury to strike Red Flash basketball this season. Prior to the start of its season, SFU women's basketball lost Brittany Lilley and  Shené Fleming to the same injury.
