FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Feb. 18, 2011) – The shorthanded Saint Francis women's tennis team struggled to gain momentum against a veteran Chicago State team on Friday morning. Competing with only five players, the Red Flash fell to the Cougars, 7-0.
“The Chicago State women's team is very talented,” said SFU coach Paul Tobin. “They were strong in all top four positions and they were able to take control of match.”
With one doubles team down due to forfeit, the Flash were able to play two however, the Chicago State duos were too much for women.
In singles, Saint Francis was not able to do too much, folding straight sets.
Alex Foty (Oakville, Ontario/Niagara Academy of Tennis), SFU's number three player, was forced to withdraw due to an injury sustained during match play. With the lack of a No. 6 racquet, the Flash also had to forfeit a point at the bottom of the lineup.
The Red Flash return to action on Saturday when they take on Evansville at 9 a.m.
