BOARDMAN, Ohio (Feb. 20, 2011) – Youngstown State took advantage of the short-handed Saint Francis women's tennis team, winning two singles and two doubles competitions by default. The Penguins won the match at the Boardman Tennis Center, 7-0, on Sunday morning.
"Our Red Flash women have done an amazing job keeping their composure during some pretty tough competition," said SFU coach Paul Tobin. "The level of play that they are being exposed to is something that will help them during the conference lineup."
"The most important thing these women can gain is the importance of developing consistency in their serves and returns. This seems to be a continued problem when they are facing stronger opponents."
Beza Dejene (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/Lycee Franco-Ethiopien Guebre Mariam) put forth a strong showing in the first set at No. 5 singles, going down 6-4, but dropped the second 6-0.
At No. 2 singles,
Devynn Sarver (Mt. Clemens, Mich./Fraser) notched the next closest set, falling 6-3 in the first. She was blanked, 6-0 in the second set be YSU's Carolyn Jesko.
The Red Flash return to action on Feb. 25 when they take on Bucknell at 4 p.m.
