LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 28, 2011) – Saint Francis University head coach Don Friday will host the final monthly Red Flash men's basketball luncheon on Tuesday, Mar. 1, at Amici's Restaurant in Ebensburg. The coaching staff and team will preview the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament, which will see No. 8 SFU travel to No. 1 Long Island for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Thursday night.
The public is invited to attend the luncheon, which will begin at 11:45 a.m. Cost to attend is $10.00, and includes a great meal and an update on the Red Flash men's basketball program. Attendees can RSVP by calling 814-472-3278 or by e-mailing assistant coach JD Byers at jdbyers@francis.edu.
“We're very excited for our final luncheon of the season as it means that the postseason is here,” Friday said. “The staff at Amici's does a fantastic job with the meal, and the support that we have received as been terrific. We'll give an account on all the happenings with our program and where we are heading. We will also talk about the Northeast Conference playoffs, and select members of our team will address the crowd on their experiences as a Saint Francis student-athletes.”
In his third season, Friday led the Red Flash to their second straight Northeast Conference playoff appearance with a team that receives 85.2 percent of its minutes from first or second-year Division I players. Saint Francis' five sophomores –
Anthony Ervin (Chesterfield, Va./Fork Union Military Academy),
Will Felder (Cleveland, OH/Lutheran East Hs),
Chris Johnson (Newport News, Va./Denbigh),
Tony Peters (Roselle, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and
Umar Shannon (Atlantic City, N.J./Atlantic City) – have contributed 70.0 percent of the team's scoring this season.
Saint Francis has defeated two opponents this season with RPI's below 100 – Northeast Conference regular season champion Long Island, and Patriot League regular season champion Bucknell.
