FAIRFAX, Va. (Feb. 28, 2011) - Three members of the Saint Francis women's track & field team took advantage of the opportunity to compete at the George Mason Last Chance meet, breaking ECAC qualifying standards in their events in Fairfax on Saturday.
The Red Flash field at the event included three performers that broke the ECAC qualifying marks in an event for the first time this season. In the sprints, freshman
Tynelle Taylor-Chase (Whitby, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic) qualified in the 500m with a time of 1:16.62, a mark that also led the field at the Last Chance. When converted for track size, Taylor-Chase's mark becomes 1:15.84. She is the second Red Flash athlete to qualify for the 500m at the ECAC Championships, joining teammate
Keishana LaRose (Brooklyn, N.Y./Acorn Community).
Speaking of LaRose, the sophomore also notched an ECAC-qualifying run at the Last Chance. LaRose qualified for the 400m with an SFU-record 56.64, shattering the old record of 57.27 that she herself set earlier in the year. LaRose's time, when converted for track size, clocks in at an impressive 55.94; that ranks 20th in the ECAC this year.
In the field,
Christin Bridge (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) added the Weight Throw to her itinerary at the ECAC Championships in one week. Bridge, who had already qualified for the Shot Put, launched a PR toss of the weight, reaching 17.13m to break the ECAC standard and lead the field at the Last Chance. Bridge also contributed a win in the Shot Put, putting the implement 13.93m.
