FULL RESULTS
LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2012) – The Saint Francis U. swimming team closed out its home season on Saturday with a resounding, 144-110, win over Youngstown State. The Red Flash won nine of the meet's first 12 events building an insurmountable lead.
With the win, SFU improved to 3-4 in dual competition on the season and ran its home win streak to seven.
“I am happy with the way the team competed today,” said head coach Patrick Gallagher. “It is really important that we are aggressive early in races and they accomplished that today.”
“Everything we do this time of the year is with one eye towards getting ready for conference championships and Coach Kerr and I are very happy with where the team is.”
The Flash started hot by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. The entry of
Rebecca Peer (Chelsea, Quebec/Philemon Wright), Elise Löfgren,
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) and
Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) won the event with a swim of 1:50.49.
Kathleen Lyon (King George, Va./King George) added onto the early lead in the 1,000 free with a victorious swim of 10:50.36 and Jenny Demjanenko followed suit in the 200 free by logging a 1:58.04.
Löfgren struck gold in two breaststroke events. The sophomore claimed the 100 with a 1:08.37 and followed up with a win in the 200 with a 2:26.66.
Ford added a second and third event win to her outstanding afternoon, winning the 50 and 100 free events with times of 24.38 and 52.78, respectively. Her mark in the 50 was .03 seconds off her own pool record time.
In the 200 back,
Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School) rose to the occasion with a 2:09.52 performance and
Megan Collins (Monroeville, Pa./Oakland Catholic) took the 500 free, swimming a 5:11.83.
The Red Flash swam the final three events as exhibitions.
Dunn and
Chloe Pierre (Valencia, Pa./Mars) – the team's two seniors – were honored prior to the meet.
“We had a such a great crowd of family, friends and alumni here today. It is much easier to swim fast with everyone behind us,” said Gallagher.
SFU returns to action on Jan. 28 when it visits Siena for a dual meet.
