FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Jan. 20, 2012) – In a rematch with IPFW from last Saturday night, the Saint Francis University men's volleyball dropped its second consecutive match to the Mastodons 3-1 (25-23- 19-25, 19-25, 22-25) on the road Friday night.
The Red Flash (1-2) started the match out on a high note, taking the first set from IPFW (3-2). Set number one was an evenly match battle between the two squads as neither team could gain a lead of above four points during the entire set. With the score set at 23 all, a service error by the Mastodons and a kill from sophomore Mark Kochan pushed the Flash past IPFW to jump ahead in the match.
It would be all Mastodons for the rest of the match however as they were victorious in the next three sets. Despite falling in the fourth set, SFU produced its best statistical numbers in that set, putting down 13 kills collectively as a team, good for a .267 attack percentage.
Kochan led the SFU offensive attack for the night with nine kills and compiled an attack percentage of .467. In addition to his offensive efforts, Kochan picked up five blocks as well to have a strong night defensively. Senior setter
Ryan Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) produced 26 assists while junior Nicholas Bancroft recorded a team-high seven digs.
Saint Francis will stay in Indiana tomorrow night for a matchup against Ball State at 7 p.m. The Red Flash defeated the Cardinals last Friday night in Loretto in five sets.
