NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 27, 2012) – The Saint Francis U swimming team encountered mixed results in a tri-meet at the Jack Suydam Natatorium on Saturday. The Red Flash defeated Duquesne, 167-95, but fell to home-standing Central Conn. State, 138-124, in the teams' third annual "Think Pink" Meet.
The teams combined to raise over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Saint Francis swimmers posted wins in four of 15 events, but stayed within striking distance of a sweep for the entire event. Senior
Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) led the way for SFU with three first place finishes.
Ford anchored the victorious 200 medley relay team that turned in a time of 1:49.80. Freshman
Danyel Johnson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville), junior
Elise Löfgren (Molnlycke, Sweden/Hulebacks) and sophomore
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) also contributed to the win.
Ford also swam for a sweep of freestyle sprints, clinching the 50 with a time of 24.67 and, with a time of 53.20, taking the 100 free.
In the 1,000 free, rookie
Haley Fournier (Ave Maria, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) pulled out a win with a time of 10:24.99. Fournier best the second place finisher – CCSU's Taylor Friedmann – by nearly four seconds.
SFU is back in action on Nov. 2, when it takes part in the Thomas Murphy Invitational. The annual event is hosted by Loyola in Baltimore, Md.
