BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2012) – The Saint Francis U women's volleyball team fell to in-state rival, Robert Morris, one of the top squads in the conference, in three sets on Wednesday night, 18-25, 20-25, 19-25.
The Red Flash (11-14, 7-5) hung with the Colonials (14-14, 10-2) in all three games, but they were not able to win a set.
In the first set, both teams battled back and forth before the Colonials were able to establish a small 10-7 lead. The Flash narrowed the margin to one after a kill by
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) which made it 11-10. RMU went on a six point run and SFU could not recover.
Saint Francis and Robert Morris fought for points in the second set and it was even at 16 apiece. After an ace by
Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) the Flash faced only a two point deficit at 22-20. RMU went on a three point run to close out the frame.
SFU trailed the majority of the third set, despite threatening several times. SFU trailed 18-15 after a kill by
Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula), and then RMU scored three consecutive points. RMU had 24 points and the Red Flash stayed alive with a clutch ace by Williams. The next kill for RMU ended the match.
Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) led the way for SFU with 11 kills, nine digs, and a .304 hitting percentage.
Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) and
Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) registered eight kills apiece. Williams added 10 digs, while Jeckell recorded 11.
Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) had six kills and
Chelsea Easter (Burlington, Ontario, Canada/Notre Dame Roman Catholic) added four of her own.
Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) registered 37 assists in the match.
Saint Francis will close out its home schedule this weekend as the Flash take on Fairleigh Dickinson for senior day on Saturday at 1 p.m.
SFU then faces Sacred Heart for the home finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
