BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2012) – The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team fell in three sets to LIU Brooklyn, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19.
SFU fell to 6-12 overall and dropped to 2-3 in the Northeast Conference, the Blackbirds improved to 11-7 on the year and stayed undefeated in NEC play, 4-0.
The Red Flash set the tone early jumping out to a lead, the Blackbirds however responded with an early six-point run. Saint Francis was not able to muster a comeback in the first frame.
In the second set, LIU jumped out to an 11-5 lead and SFU could not narrow the deficit. In the third set, it was the Red and White that took a commanding 10-6 lead after a service ace from
Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area). A 5-0 run put the Blackbirds back in contention and they would take the third and final set.
Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) and
Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) led Saint Francis in the kills department with nine and eight kills, respectively. Wingard also added the lone service ace for SFU and hit .467 in the match.
Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Flash with eight digs and
Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) chipped in with six kills.
Kierstin Kiser (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) had 27 assists in the match and
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) registered seven kills with a .545 hitting percentage.
Saint Francis will take the court at DeGol Arena at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon against St. Francis (NY).
