Dominant second day at Thomas Murphy Invitational powers Red Flash sweep

FULL RESULTS

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 3, 2012)
– The Saint Francis University swim team erased a slim day one deficit against Loyola and increased its leads against Johns Hopkins and Marywood to come away with a sweep at the Thomas Murphy Invitational on Saturday.

Seven event wins by the Red Flash – including a team-high three by Elise Löfgren (Molnlycke, Sweden/Hulebacks) – translated into lopsided wins over the Greyhounds (234-124), Blue Jays (192-139) and Pacers (283-67).

Lofgren picked up her first win of the day in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:07.53 and followed it up with a first-place performance of 2:24.31 in the 200 breaststroke.  The junior earned her third win as a member of the 400 freestyle relay, which posted a 3:34.71.  Danyel Johnson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville), Megan Collins (Monroeville, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) were the other members of the successful entry.

The Red Flash 200 freestyle relay team also found itself in the winner's circle after combining for a time of 1:38.58.  Rookies Johnson and Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) led off for the foursome, followed by Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) and Ford.

Turning in a 4:37.00, Collins picked up her second victory of the afternoon in the 400 IM.  Junior Joy Mullins (Waynesboro, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) joined the long list of SFU event-winners by swimming a 59.83 in the 100 fly.

Freshman Haley Fournier (Ave Maria, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) rounded out the Red Flash's litany of medalists with a winning time of 17:32.32 in the 1,650 free.  Fournier bested the second-place finisher by nearly 48 seconds.

Saint Francis (5-1) will splash back into action on Friday when it visits Youngstown State for a 5 p.m. dual meet.
