YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Nov. 9, 2012) – Saint Francis owned freestyle events but little else fell in the Red Flash's favor as Youngstown State snagged a, 149-139, decision at Beeghly Natatorium on Friday evening.
The setback drops SFU to 5-2 on the young season, while the Penguins improve to 3-1.
Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) captured wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle events to pace the Red Flash. The senior posted a time of 24.80 in the 50 and a 53.13 in the 100.
The Flash left little doubt as to which team owned 1,000 and 500 yard freestyle competitions. SFU swimmers swept the top three spots in each event, highlighted by
Kathleen Lyon (King George, Va./King George) who accomplished the feat in both.
Lyon finished second in the 1,000 with a swim of 10:46.39 and claimed third place in the 500 with a 5:16.41 mark.
Megan Collins (Monroeville, Pa./Oakland Catholic) won the 1,000 free (10:26.87) with
Joy Mullins (Waynesboro, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) posting a third place finish (11:01.57). Freshman
Haley Fournier (Ave Maria, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) took the 500 (5:10.12) while
Jennifer Demjanenko (New Albany, Ohio/Gahanna-Lincoln) earned second place honors (5:10.55).
Breaking from the free events,
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) tasted victory in the 100 butterfly, with a swim of 58.63.
Saint Francis is back in action at Akron on Saturday. The meet gets underway at 1 p.m.
