FAIRFAX, Va. (Feb. 11, 2012) – Freshman
Lucy Jasso (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Potosino) paced Saint Francis with a pair of victories but it wasn't enough, as George Mason downed the Red Flash, 6-1, at Montclair Country Club on Saturday.
Jasso teamed with fellow rookie
Alex Sachs (Parkland, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) to pick up an impressive, 8-4, in no. 1 doubles and carried her strong play to singles competition. At the no. 4 position, Jasso came from behind to post a, 3-6, 7-5 (10-7) victory.
“Lucy picked up a good win losing the first set, but coming back to win in the tiebreaker,” explained head coach Paul Tobin. “Both
Shivani Patel (Leicestershire, England/Repton School) and Alex showed competitive scores but at the end they still struggle closing out points.”
“Picked up no. 1 doubles, but struggled at nos. 2 and 3 positions. This is Alex-and-Lucy's fourth win together and I am optimistic that we can pick up the doubles point once we gain more experience in established line-ups.”
With Sunday's home match with Bucknell postponed due to weather, the Red Flash returns to action on Feb. 18 when it visits Maryland-Eastern Shore.
