HARMAR, Pa. (Feb. 23, 2012) – The Duquesne Dukes bested the Saint Francis University men's tennis team, 7-0, on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The match served as a final brush-up before the Red Flash opens Northeast Conference play at Quinnipiac on Sunday.
“I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep reminding the men that these matches are our only opportunity to experience heavy balls and get us ready for our important conference matches,” said head coach Paul Tobin. “It does us no good to pick up easy wins outside of conference.”
The high point of the match came early for Saint Francis when
Andres Rosa (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Colegio la Piedad) and
Nate Fleming (Gas City, Ind./Missossonewa) won in convincing fashion at no. 1 doubles. The duo downed the Dukes' Aram Abgaryan and Mehdi Mekaovi, 8-4.
“I have to give it to Andres and Nate for taking no. 1 doubles against a very strong Dukes team who has gone undefeated this season.”
The Flash and Bobcats will get to work at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
