SFU falters in road match at George Mason

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 30, 2012) – The Saint Francis University men's volleyball team dropped its second consecutive Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match Friday night, losing 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 18-25) on the road at George Mason.

The Red Flash (10-13, 5-5 EIVA) opened the match with a first set win against the Patriots (8-13, 4-4 EIVA) but faltered in the next three to let GMU take the match in four sets. Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) finished the match as the only SFU player to register double digit kills with his 11. Patterson also led the defensive efforts for the Flash as he dug the ball nine times and picked up six total blocks (one solo, five assisted). Mark Kochan also recorded six blocks while setter Ryan Williams (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) dished out 33 assists.

In its only set win of the match, the Flash trailed by as many as four halfway through the set but came back to tie things at 17 all. After the two teams exchanged point for point in the next few plays, Saint Francis came out on top thanks to two final kills by Alex Kane (York, Pa./West York).

George Mason got even when they pulled out a tightly contested second set win. The majority of the points scored in the set went back and forth between the two teams, but it was the Patriots who put enough space between them and their competitors when it counted to score the set win. The final two sets were all GMU as they worked to build up their lead all the way through the two sets, leading by as many as nine.

Saint Francis continues EIVA action on the road tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match at Princeton.
