SFU posts perfect weekend to close out regular season

HARTFORD, Conn. (April 16, 2012) – Three members of the Saint Francis U. women's tennis team finished with perfect 6-0 records after the Red Flash swept its final three matches to close out the regular season.

The Flash downed St. Francis (N.Y.) and Wagner on Saturday by scores of 6-1 and 7-0, respectively before earning a, 5-2, decision against Harford on Sunday.

Its seven regular season wins are the most for SFU since the 2009-10 season and are two shy of the program record of nine wins set in 2001-02.  The winner of four of its last six matches, the Flash now awaits its draw in Friday's opening round of the NEC Tournament.

Shivani Patel (Leicestershire, England/Repton School), Lucy Jasso (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Potosino) and Alex Sachs (Parkland, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) each swept doubles and singles play to close out solid rookie campaigns.  Laura Husband (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville Area) was perfect in singles competition, but went 2-1 in doubles play.  Five of the six women seeing action on Saturday posted unblemished records against their NEC counterparts.

After cruising past St. Francis (N.Y.) and Wagner, the Flash encountered its stiffest competition at Hartford.  After SFU claimed the doubles point, the Hawks rallied to take the first two singles competitions.  SFU charged back by winning out to earn the team “W.”

The 2012 Northeast Conference Championships will run April 20-22 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
