BOX SCORE NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Sept. 30, 2012) - The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team lost to Central Connecticut State in four sets Sunday, 23-25, 13-25, 28-26, 12-25.
The Red Flash fell to 6-10 on the season, and to 2-1 in Northeast Conference play. The Blue Devils improved to 8-9 overall as they picked up their third conference win.
It was SFU who led early in the first set, and it stayed close the entire time until CCSU went on a 5-0 run late. Saint Francis was not able to get into any rhythm in the second set, but they responded in the third frame, winning in extra time.
In the fourth set, CCSU jumped out to an early lead and the Red Flash could not muster a comeback.
"Serve reception was a major struggle for us today, and when that phase struggles, it makes everything else tough to do," head coach Chuck Mullen said. "We're starting a tough week this week and the ability to focus on improving is essential."
Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) and
Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) led Saint Francis with seven kills apiece.
Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) had three kills to go along with a team-high 14 digs.
