BOX SCORE KENT, Ohio (Sept. 7, 2012) - The Saint Francis women's volleyball team lost to Marshall University in their second game at the Kent State Mizuno Classic.
The Red Flash fell to 3-6 on the season, while the Thundering Herd improved to 5-4 overall. SFU fell in three sets 20-25, 14-25, 15-25.
SFU and Marshall battled back and forth in set one, Marshall was leading 5-4, and after a run they were leading 16-6. The Red Flash fought back, after kills by
Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) and
Amanda Zahumensky (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) they narrowed the margin to 20-18. Marshall was able to close out the set despite a late SFU attack.
Marshall jumped out to an 8-2 lead in both the second and third sets and SFU was not able to recover.
Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central) continued her stellar play leading Saint Francis with 11 kills. She was the only Red Flash member to get into double-digits in the kill column.
Williams was next with six kills, she also had eight digs in the match.
Breanna Kochinsky (Nicktown, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Red and White with 10 digs and
Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) had a team-high 21 assists.
Saint Francis will return to the MAC Center tomorrow morning as they take on the host, Kent State, at 10:30 a.m.
