Saint Francis Falls at Second Day of Mizuno Classic

BOX SCORE KENT, Ohio (Sept. 8, 2012) – The Saint Francis University women's volleyball team lost to Kent State, the host of the Mizuno Classic, in three sets 15-25, 23-25, 20-25.

The Red Flash fell to 3-7 overall, while Kent State improved to 3-5 on the season.

The Golden Flash started out with an early lead, Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) had the first kill for SFU to get them on the board. The set remained close, but Kent State pulled away towards the end to take the first.

The second set was much more of a battle, SFU took the lead first with a kill by Hannah Kutny (Clifton Park, N.Y./Catholic Central). Both teams traded points until Kent State was able to take a five point lead. SFU responded with a run to keep it close. The Golden Flashes were able to sneak out a two point victory in the second set.

SFU did not have a lead at any point in the final set, however they remained in contention right up until the last point.

Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) led SFU with nine kills and five digs. Kutny and Kayla Jeckell (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) ended the match with six kills apiece. Jeckell ended with an impressive .333 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Williams (North Bend, Ohio/Saint Ursula) had four kills and three service aces.

Lauren Wingard (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) was named to the Mizuno Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance over the weekend.

Alanna Blenkarn (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) had a team-high 26 assists to go along with 2 service aces.

Saint Francis returns to DeGol Arena on Tuesday night (Sept. 11) for a 7 p.m. match with UMBC.
