LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 18, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team fell to the Loyola - Chicago Ramblers in three sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-16.
The Ramblers (3-3) jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first set and the Red Flash (1-3) struggled to string together points to muster a comeback.
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) led the Flash with four kills in the first frame.
Saint Francis held an early 7-4 lead in the second set after another Sherwin kill. SFU went on a three point run to take the lead to 11-7, forcing a Ramblers timeout. LUC went on two separate 4-0 runs to and eventually took the set.
Both squads traded points early in the third set until the Ramblers took an 11-8 lead.
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) had a big block to stop another LUC run at 15-12. The Ramblers went on to take the third set.
“It was very disappointing to come out and get handled that easily by our opponent,” SFU head coach
Mike Rumbaugh said. “Tomorrow we need to come out with better focus and attitude to get the job done.”
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) finished with 11 kills for SFU, while
Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) chipped in with eight kills.
Lucas Behringer (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) led SFU in digs with six.
Saint Francis is back in action tomorrow night as they face No. 12 Lewis University at 7 p.m.
