Saint Francis Tripped Up by Ohio State

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team lost in four sets to No. 11 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon, 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25.

The Red Flash (1-5) jumped ahead of the Buckeyes (3-2) early and took a 5-4 lead after a kill from Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area). OSU went on a run and forced an SFU timeout after they led 15-10. Both teams traded points until the Buckeyes took the set.

Saint Francis held another early lead in set two. With the set tied at 12 apiece Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) and Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) slammed down back-to-back kills to force an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes went on a 4-0 run late to take a 19-18 lead, which forced an SFU timeout. The Flash threatened with a block from Roche and Michael Krepp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), but OSU took the set.

SFU took a commanding 6-2 lead in the third set which forced a Buckeyes timeout. The momentum stayed with the Flash as they kept a large lead until another OSU timeout at 14-9. The Flash took the third set after a kill from Roche.

Ohio State led 7-3 early into the fourth set. The Flash battled back at tied the match at 13 after another Patterson kill. The frame was tied at 18 and OSU went on a run point run to force an SFU timeout. The Buckeyes went on to take the fourth and final set.

Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) was the kills leader for SFU with 15. Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton), and Adam Barba (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) added nine kills apiece.

Nick Bancroft (Centerville, Pa./Maplewood) had a career and match-high 19 digs in the match. Michael Krepp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) registered 40 assists on the afternoon.

Saint Francis returns to action Friday (Jan. 25) as they host Harvard in the 2013 EIVA opener at 7 p.m.
