BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 25, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team suffered a setback in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) opener against Harvard.
The Red Flash (1-6, 0-1) fell to the Crimson (3-0, 1-0) in three sets, 22-25, 24-26, 23-25.
SFU took an early 5-2 lead in the first set after a kill from
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe). Both teams traded points and the match stayed even until Harvard forced an SFU timeout at 15-13. The Crimson ended up taking the first set,
Adam Barba (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) led the Flash with five kills.
It was Harvard that took the early lead in set two. Both teams exchanged blows in the frame, but the Flash broke the 9-9 tie with a two point run which led to a Harvard timeout. SFU held a lead at 24-23 forcing a final Crimson timeout. Harvard scored three straight points out of the break to take the second set.
Harvard took a commanding 8-2 lead in the third set. SFU had to battle back and narrowed the margin to one at 23-22, which forced a Crimson timeout. Harvard would go on to take the third and final set.
Adam Barba (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) led SFU with 12 kills,
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) was next with 11 kills.
Nick Bancroft (Centerville, Pa./Maplewood) led the Flash with 10 digs.
Kyle Beatty (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) registered three kills and a service ace in his first game back from injury.
Saint Francis returns to action tomorrow evening as they take on EIVA foe Sacred Heart at 7 p.m.
