SOMERSET, N.J. (Oct. 2, 2013) – Saint Francis U men's tennis student-athlete Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) has earned Northeast Conference Rookie of the Month honors, it was announced Tuesday afternoon.  The Bulgarian native posted a 4-2 singles record in his first month of collegiate competition.

Avuski advanced to the "F" flight singles final at the USTA BJK NTC Men's College Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.  He rolled to easy straight set wins over opponents from Monmouth and Bucknell, then ousted third-seeded Scott Bernstein of Bucknell in the semis.  In the title match, Avuski took Jordan Lieb of Bucknell to three sets before falling, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

The Red Flash gets back to work on Oct. 25-27 when it takes part in the Youngstown State Invitational.
