Folz and Rogers Win Twice at Think Pink Meet

LORETTO, Pa. – Freshman Mary-Margaret Folz and sophomore Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) each won twice as the Saint Francis swim team lost to Duquesne, 151-111, in the annual Think Pink meet. The Flash won six events in the meet with five individual victories.

Four of the five wins came from Folz and Rogers. Folz won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.06 and the 500 free in 5:16.12. Rogers won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.08) and 100-yard freestyle (54.76).

"I thought Cat was our best swimmer today," head coach Rory Coleman said. "I was very proud of her performance."

Rogers contributed to a third win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Rogers, Rebecca Peer (Chelsea, Quebec/Philemon Wright), Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) and Danyel Johnson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) won the event in 1:47.09. Francis gathered the other victory for the Flash on Saturday, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 59.34. She also finished third in the 200 fly (2:12.00). Johnson finished second in the 50 free.

Rogers, Folz, Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) and Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) finished second in the other relay event, the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:40.29). Reilly also had a third and fourth place in two freestyle events and McLean finished third in the 1,000 free and fourth in the 100 fly.

Senior Katrina Wilhite (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed) finished second in both the 100 back and 200 back, and Peer came in right behind in third in both of those events. Senior Elise Lofgren finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.10) and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.63).

Homecoming Court member Meghan Cotugno (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) had a fourth place mark in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

The swimmers raised $5,400 for the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at the Windber Medical Center. Saint Francis now moves on to the Thomas Murphy Invitational in Baltimore next Friday and Saturday.
