YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – (Oct. 28, 2013) Freshman Kyle Korus (Toronto, Ontario/Niagara Academy) led the charge for the Red Flash men's tennis team at the Youngstown State University Invitational posting a 5-2 overall record, while Saint Francis totaled 17 wins.

Korus finished 3-1 in singles and advanced to the Flight C Singles Main Draw Finals, before falling to Youngstown's Dawould Kabli (6-3, 6-0). Korus recorded three consecutive wins (6-5, 6-1) over Hirmas of Robert Morris, (6-3, 6-5) over Walshe of Duquesne University, and a (4-6, 6-5, 6-4) triumph over Harris of Wright State.

Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) and Korus, a strong freshman duo reached the finals of the back draw doubles in Flight A overpowering Robert Morris and Wright State and ultimately losing (8-3) to Hirmas and Ferreira of RMU.

"I was particularly pleased with how Korus and Cerdan performed this weekend," said Coach Castille. "They played well together as a doubles team and did very well in their perspective singles draws. It was also great to get Sergio Carvajal (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/U.E. Fray Elias Maria Sendra) back playing again." "We are excited to have his play and leadership back on the court for us."

Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) Fernandez and Lawson Barter (Chicago, Ill./Loyola) posted a solid performance in doubles picking up two wins in the Main Draw Consolation finishing the invite with a 2-2 showing.

"This was a good way for us to end the Fall season, said Head Coach Rob Castille. "I felt like we had some very good results and competed well. "I definitely think we have improved from the first day of practice and I'm confident we will continue to get better."

After suffering a loss in the opening round of the Flight 8 Backdraw Final, Cerden won back-to-back matches against Alvarez (6-2, 6-3) and Bourbon (6-3, 6-3) before falling to YSU's Ismail (6-4, 6-4) to finish the day 2-2 in singles.
Barter and Juan Pardo (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Andino) matched Cerden's performance marking 2-2 records. Barter suffered a tight first round loss to Morris of ASA (6-4, 5-6, 6-2) before notching consecutive victories against Theorin of YSU (6-4, 3-6, 1-0) and Juan Hirmas (6-5, 6-5) of RMU.
Pardo dropped his opening round match in Flight C before earning a comeback victory over Leite of RMU (3-6, 6-2, 1-0). Pardo's second win came in round 25 against Hirmus of RMU (6-0, 6-1).

"Lastly, I was happy with how Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) played and competed this weekend." "He showed us the player we all know he can be and I am looking forward to seeing some great things from him this Spring."
