BALTIMORE – The Saint Francis swimming team defeated Marywood, 267-91, and fell to Loyola and Johns Hopkins at the Thomas Murphy Invitational this weekend.
In yesterday's first session, Mary-Margaret Folz finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.55),
Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) won the 200-yard individual medley with her best time ever and
Danyel Johnson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) finished third in the 50 freestyle in 24.65.
In the second session this morning, the Red Flash opened the day tied for third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Senior Elise Lofgren finished third in the 400-yard individual medley. She turned it on towards the end of the race after starting slow to pull into the third position. Senior
Meghan Cotugno (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) placed ninth in the 200 freestyle, the top spot for a Red Flash swimmer in that event.
Rogers earned a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.38), while Folz added a second place spot in the mile in 18:02.61 and
Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) was fifth in 18:29.88.
In the third session this evening, the Flash started with a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay. Lofgren won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:25:26 and
Libby Francis (Dundee, Scotland/Grove Academy) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.78).
The Flash finished the invitational with a fourth and a fifth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Francis, Cotugno, Folz and Johnson just edged teammates
Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair), McLean, Lofgren and Rogers. Johnson (53.24) and Rogers (53.84) earned the fastest splits in the race.
The Flash move on to face Akron next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
