Johnson and Cotman Claim Wins At Bison Opener

LEWISBURG, Pa. – (Dec. 07, 2013) The Saint Francis U women's track and field team began their 2013-14 indoor schedule at the Bison Opener, Saturday afternoon. Team scoring was not kept at the meet.

Brittany Johnson (Vienna, Va./George C. Marshall) led the way for Saint Francis with a win in the 60-meter dash. Johnson cruised to a 7.74 finish claiming her first win of the indoor track season.  Paris Cotman (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) joined Johnson claiming a win in the women's 400-meter dash with a 56.97 performance. The duo placed first and second in the women's 200-meter dash. Johnson claimed her second victory on the afternoon, edging out Cotman by .12 milo seconds. 

"This was a strong opening meet for our squads," said Head Coach Douglas Hoover. "I was very happy with the efforts of our student-athletes." "Most of our returning students proved that they are ahead of where they were a year ago."

Jasmine Campbell (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) began the day for the Red Flash finishing third overall in the women's long jump. Campbell cleared 5.21m.

In the women's weight throw Saint Francis had two athletes place in the top ten. Jordan Collins (Bayport, N.Y./Bluepoint) led the pair marking a 14.31m throw, while Ivona Mikulic (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) finished seventh overall with a 13.92m throw.

Leah Skedel (East Wheatfield, Pa./United) and Jordan Collins (Bayport, N.Y./Bluepoint) tied for fifth place in the shot put both clearing 11.72m.

"We had a strong showing from our freshman class, it was a learning experience, said coach Hoover." "We learned some areas where we have work to, and we caught a glimpse of where this journey could lead us in a few months."

Saint Francis returns to action Jan. 11 at the Penn State Relays.
