BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team won its second consecutive match as they swept the Mount Olive College Trojans, 25-19, 25-25, 25-19.
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) led the Red Flash (3-6, 1-1) offense as he registered 11 kills and posted a .773 hitting percentage. The SFU defense held the Trojans (5-1, 1-1) to a dismal .172 team hitting percentage.
Mount Olive led 2-1 in the first set, and that would be the only lead SFU would surrender the entire evening. Sherwin slammed down a kill to take the 4-3 lead and the Flash never looked back.
SFU took a commanding 6-0 lead in set number two after a combined block from
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) and
Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton). The Red Flash continued to click on all cylinders and they took the second frame handily.
Saint Francis cruised to an early 10-4 lead in the third set after Sherwin and
Mike Marshman (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) combined on a block. The Trojans competed towards the end of the set, but SFU prevailed.
“We had four great days of practice this week, and it really showed tonight,” SFU head coach
Mike Rumbaugh said. “This win goes to the guys who don't show up on the stat sheet, but who push the starters in practice all week.”
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) finished with 12 kills and
Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) notched seven kills with a .455 hitting percentage.
Michael Krepp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) registered 35 assists in the three set match.
Saint Francis will host Pfeiffer University tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
