BOX SCORE CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Feb. 16, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team fell in straight sets at Harvard on Saturday evening, 23-25, 21-25, 22,25.
The Red Flash (5-9, 2-3) lost to the Crimson (6-2, 2-1) for the second time this season, both contests only went three sets.
“We played much better this time around, unfortunately for us Harvard did too,” SFU head coach
Mike Rumbaugh said about the second loss to Harvard.
Saint Francis held an early lead in set one, the Flash went on a five point run highlighted by a block from
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and
Mark Kochan (Towaco, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) which caused a Crimson timeout. SFU continued to lead until Harvard made a comeback and took a lead at 18-17. The Crimson would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the stanza.
Again SFU took the early 3-0 lead in set two, and both teams traded points for the majority of the frame. The Flash held a lead at 17-15 after a service ace from
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) which forced another Harvard timeout. Harvard went on to tie it up at 21 all and forced two separate SFU timeouts. The Crimson kept rolling and finished on a 7-0 run.
Harvard led the majority of set three and their lead stretched to seven at one point. SFU battled back to within two after a
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) kill to make it 22-20 in favor of Harvard. After a timeout, the Crimson went on to close out the match.
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) finished with a match-high 15 kills and hit .440 for the contest.
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) added six kills and five blocks.
Kyle Beatty (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) registered four kills and four digs, and
Nick Bancroft (Centerville, Pa./Maplewood) posted 11 digs.
Saint Francis will return to Sweet Loretto next weekend as they host Princeton on Friday night at 7 p.m.
