SFU Comeback Falls Short Against Princeton

BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 22, 2013) Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) posted 17 kills, but it was not enough as the Saint Francis U men's volleyball team lost to Princeton in four sets, 18-25, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25 at DeGol Arena Friday evening.

The Red Flash (5-10, 2-4) did not hold a lead in either of the first two sets, but threatened a comeback against the Tigers (5-2, 3-1), as they won the third set handily.

Princeton took an early 8-2 lead in the first set and held a lead for the remainder of the frame. The Flash threatened with a three point run and narrowed the margin to five at 16-11. The Tigers would hold on to take the set.

In the second set, the Tigers again took an early lead. The Red Flash had a three point run highlighted by a block from Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) and Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) which pulled them within four. Princeton responded with two separate three point runs, and took the second set.

Patterson notched a kill to start set three and gave SFU their first lead of the match. The Flash embarked on a 4-0 run and took a 10-8 lead to force a Princeton timeout. Saint Francis kept rolling out of the break, and after another kill from Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) the Tigers took another timeout. The Flash continued to hold the momentum and took the third set.

Princeton took the early lead in set four and extended the gap to seven at 19-12. SFU battled back and narrowed the margin to four at 22-18 after a block from Roche and Michael Krepp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Princeton went on to take the fourth and final set.

Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) added nine kills and five blocks in the loss. Mark Kochan (Towaco, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) posted four kills and six blocks to lead the team. Michael Krepp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) notched 38 assists and seven digs in the match.

Saint Francis will host George Mason tomorrow evening, the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
