BOX SCORE CHICAGO, ILL. (March 15, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Loyola University Chicago on Friday evening, 18-25, 19-25, 22-25.
The Red Flash (8-11, 5-4) were led by
Nick Bancroft (Centerville, Pa./Maplewood), the junior registered a match-high 15 digs. The Ramblers (12-8, 4-3) registered 22 total blocks in the match, compared to 15 from SFU.
Loyola jumped out to an early 9-6 lead in set one, and SFU did not hold a lead at any point. After a service error from the Ramblers, SFU trailed 20-17. Loyola then went on a 3-0 run and closed out the set.
SFU battled closely with Loyola in the second set, but with the score tied at seven, the Ramblers went on a 5-0 run. SFU battled back within two at 20-18 which forced a Loyola timeout. Out of the break, SFU surrendered five straight points and lost the set.
Loyola held a 16-7 lead in set three, but SFU went on a six point run. Loyola managed to fight off the SFU momentum to take the final set.
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) led the Red Flash offense with 11 kills.
Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) added three kills and five blocks.
Kyle Beatty (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) posted six kills and five digs.
Saint Francis returns to action tomorrow evening as they face No. 7 Lewis University at 7 p.m.
