BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. (March 23, 2013) – The Saint Francis U men's volleyball team lost to the No. 13 Penn State Nittany Lions, 19-25, 18-25, 19-25, on Saturday evening.
The Red Flash (8-13, 5-5) held early leads in two of the three sets, but could not hold off the Nittany Lions (15-6, 9-1).
SFU led early in the first set after kills from
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) and
Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton). Penn State took the lead at 5-4 and remained in front for the duration of the set. The Flash stayed in it as the Nittany Lions largest lead was just six.
Penn State took the early lead in the second set, but the Flash battled back to within one at 13-12, forcing a PSU timeout. Later in the set, the Nittany Lions scored five of six points to take a 21-16 lead, which forced a SFU timeout. After the break, PSU would go on to take the second set.
The Red Flash led early again in set three after kills from
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Roche. Penn State took the lead at 4-3 and held it for the remainder of the set.
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) led SFU with eight kills, while
Adam Roche (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton),
Colin Sherwin (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe), and
Mark Kochan (Towaco, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) each added six.
Saint Francis will return to action as they travel to Princeton for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday.
