Swimming Finishes Second at Northeast Catholic Invite

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) set a new meet record in the 200 breaststroke as the Saint Francis swimming team claimed victories in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard backstroke.

With a time of 2:25.93, Kish set the meet record as only a freshman.

"It was nice in our first trip to Boston College to etch our names in the meet record books," said head coach Rory Coleman.

The Flash also took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.00, along with setting the meet record in the event. Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School), Emma Karell (Norrtalge, Sweden/Taby Swim Club), and Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) were the swimmers who gave the Flash the victory.

Dieterich took home the best time in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.50.

Saint Francis finished the meet 6-1 and had numerous top 10 finishes in multiple events. Katelynn Happney (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester ) (2nd, 4:50.89) and Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) (6th, 4:55.57) finished in the top 10 of the 400-yard IM as Karell (2nd, 1:00.43) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly.

Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) (2nd, 1:56.35) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle as both Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) and Megan Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished with identical times of 2:03.24 in the event, finishing in 13th place.

Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei), Mary Margaret Folz (Valencia, Pa./Eden Christian Academy), and Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) also recorded points for the Flash in their respective events

"We represented the University well this weekend," said Coleman. "We had a lot of improvements from last weeks times and we are pushing forward in the season as we should with more speed each week."

The Flash begin their conference meets this weekend, October 18, 2014 against Mount St. Mary's at 1pm in Stokes Natatorium.
