TOLEDO, Ohio (October 10, 2014) – The Saint Francis U men's tennis team competed this past weekend in the Rocket Invitational at the University of Toledo. Wayne State, Niagara University, Youngstown State, Duquesne Univeristy, Purdue, Western Michigan, Cleveland State, and the University of Toledo also took part in the invitational with the Red Flash men.
 
"I was pleased with the way we played this past weekend. For most of the guys, it was their last action of the fall so it was nice to end things on a good note," said SFU head coach Rob Castille.
 
Day one was rather quiet for both the singles and doubles matches. Day two was an entirely different story for the doubles teams. The men took four of their five doubles matches. Senior captain Sergio Carvajal (Nueva Esparta, Venezuela/U.E. Fray Elias Maria Sendra) and his doubles partner Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) defeated teams from Duquesne and Youngstown State. They took two of their three matches in day two, coming back with the most doubles wins for Saint Francis in the invitational.      
 
Jimenez also managed to take the win in his only singles competition of the invitational with a score of 6-2, 6-3 against Wayne State's Mohamed Fazyi Kechai.
 
"I don't think we have competed and played very well up to this point so this will definitely be good momentum going into the start of the Spring season in January. We will evaluate the entire Fall as a team and make sure we are working hard on those things that need improvement so we are ready to go come January," continued Castille.
 
The men will be in action next when they take part in the USTA/ITA Regional Championships in Queens, N.Y. this week, October 16th to the 21st.
