NEWARK, Del. – The Saint Francis swimming team opened the 2014-15 campaign at Delaware on Saturday, swimming against the Blue Hens and Georgetown. The Flash fell 194-95 to Delaware and 217-74 to Georgetown. Several of the newest Red Flash swimmers contributed in their first collegiate meet.
Freshmen Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) and Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) joined junior Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) and sophomore Jessica Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) to finish second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:40.12. Lafferty also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (53.83) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.56). She also joined Rogers, junior Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and freshman Emma Karell (Norrtalge, Sweden/Taby Swim Club) in a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of 1:50.43.
Dieterich was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.49) and fifth in the 200 back (2:10.98). Karell posted strong marks in her first collegiate meet, finishing third in the 200-yard fly (2:12.57) and fourth in the 100-yard fly (1:00.29).
Freshman Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) reached second place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.19) and placed fifth in the 100-yarder in 1:09.76. In those same races, Rogers finished fourth in the 100-yard (1:09.00) and fifth in the 200-yarder (2:29.90).
SFU is back in action at Boston College at the Northeast Catholic Invite on Friday and Saturday.
