BOX SCORE LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team got off to a fast start in its match with Harvard on Friday night at DeGol Arena, but the Crimson came back to defeat the Red Flash. Harvard won 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19.
Saint Francis (7-5, 2-2) jumped ahead in the first game with a 4-0 run on kills by
Mark Kochan (Towaco, N.J./Seton Hall Prep),
Adam Barba (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and
Kyle Beatty (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown). The run capped with a
Michael Kresch (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) ace to make it 7-3 SFU. It was the first of three aces in the set for Saint Francis. Kresch added his second of the game to make it 16-10, and Barba extended the SFU lead to 18-11 with his ace. The Flash finished the set on a 3-0 run to take the early 1-0 lead. SFU hit .407 in the set.
Harvard used a 6-0 run early in game two and stormed ahead 9-3 in game three as the Crimson never trailed in either set. In game four, however, Saint Francis scored six of the first seven points as it looked to extend the match to the limit. Harvard fought back to tie the score at 8-8, and the teams traded points to 14-14. A pair of kills by Barba answered a 3-0 Harvard run to pull the Flash to within 17-16, but it would come no closer. Harvard finished game four on a 7-2 run to remain undefeated in EIVA play (5-3, 4-0).
Barba finished with team highs in kills with 16 and digs with 10, while
Logan Patterson (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) had eight kills and five digs. Barba also led the team with a .394 hitting percentage.
The Red Flash will look to bounce back tomorrow night at home against Sacred Heart at 6:00 p.m.
