After 15 years, McConnell moves up SFU career wins list

LORETTO, Pa. (March 17, 2014) – Fifteen seasons after his tenure in Loretto came to a close, former Saint Francis U head men's basketball coach Tom McConnell is moving up the program's career wins list.

Due to a bookkeeping error, McConnell's record was not updated to reflect a Dec. 27, 1995 forfeit win over Michigan.  The change flips the Red Flash's 1995-96 record to 14-13 and bumps McConnell's win total to 86 – moving him into sole possession of second place on the program's career list.

McConnell, who is now the head women's basketball coach at Indiana (Pa.), led Saint Francis to the Northeast Conference tournament in six of his seven seasons at the helm.  His signature win in Loretto was the Red Flash's, 77-73, home win over nationally-ranked Xavier on Jan. 31, 1994.

He also recruited current SFU head coach Rob Krimmel and assistant coach Eric Taylor to campus as student-athletes.  His son Luke currently serves as the program's Director of Operations.
